Ever dream of staying on a working chocolate farm, surrounded by cacao and exotic plants while overlooking the ocean? Wake up here! Minutes from old town Hilo, this modern cacao farm offers 2 ensuite bed rooms for guests and full access to the farm/gardens/river and treehouse. For your safety, we ask that all our guests are fully covid vaccinated. Guests have access to our large covered lanai and adjacent chocolate demo kitchen w/ toaster, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, glassware, plates, utensils if you care to prepare your own self-catered meals. We provide complimentary tea or coffee in the mornings.

Ocean & Cacao View Room

Overlooking the cacao orchard and sapphire Pacific Ocean, this elegant room features a full ensuite bathroom, as well as a spacious living area with a queen-size bed with a Tempurapedic mattress. You will surely enjoy the spectacular view from your bed, waking up seeing the sunrise over the ocean through the 9’x9’ louvered window. It is all about indoor-outdoor living here in Hawaii. Your spatious bedroom has great ventilation and plenty of windows, bringing the outside in. But we also want you to enjoy our outdoor spaces as an extension of your room. Our large covered lanai- just outside the bedroom acts as an additional living and dining room with a beautiful ocean view and gentle tropical breezes to lull you into relaxation. Our comfortable guest rooms are not equipped with TV (to help you unplug), however, you can connect to the complimentary WiFi network and enjoy whatever you want to watch or listen to on your own devices.

Hilo Bay View Room

With a ocean view from your bed ,the Hilo Bay room has an E Luxury queen sized mattress and a private lanai overlooking the rainforest/stream/gardens, Hilo Bay and beaches. The artwork in the room is inspired by historic cacao plantations and includes an Austrian teaching lithograph from the 1800s. The comfortable rooms are not equipped with TV (to help you unplug), however, you can connect to the complimentary WiFi network and enjoy whatever you want to watch or listen to on your own devices. There is also guest access to our chocolate demo kitchen w/toaster, refrigerator, freezer, microwave, plates/glasses/utensils if you care to prepare your own breakfast or want to enjoy some cocktails. We provide complimentary coffee and tea in the morning. From your private lanai, enjoy the Hilo Bay vista over our palm-filled valley with sounds and views of our Aleamai stream.

In addition to your rooms, guests have access to our large covered lanai complete with lounges, chairs and tables. We also provide access to a refrigerator and freezer if you need to keep some drinks cool. You are welcome to explore the farm, gardens, streamside hammocks, suspension bridge and tree house.

Location, Location, Location:

Hamakua Chocolate Farm is located in Papaikou- a small village just 8 minutes north of Old Town Hilo- on the Big Island of Hawaii. We are a great jumping off point to explore Hilo Town, the Hilo Farmers Market, numerous waterfalls, botanic gardens, tea farms/tastings, zip lines, local beaches (including the newly formed black sand beaches from the recent lava flow), quaint sugar plantation villages and the Volcano National Park all along the enchanting Hamakua Coastline.

Notes on staying on our working farm

No Child Policy: Due to this being a working farm with uneven terrain, swiftly flowing stream, suspension bridge, unfenced gulches and active farm equipment, this is not a suitable environment for kids under the age of 16.

The farm is located in a rural area within a tropical rainforest. This means that you will experience the chirping of the coqui treefrogs, as well as the sounds of our river, and morning birdsong. Each room is provided with ear-plugs…just in case nature is "too close".

The rooms are not equipped with A/C, but both have ceiling fans over the beds. In general, the climate of the Hamakua coast does not require A/C: in the daytime it is normal to have the gentle trade winds and in the evenings, the winds shift directions bringing cool mountain breezes into the farm.

As we are 100% off-grid, please limit hair dryer (or other heavy electrical usage) to daylight hours only.

The rooms are not equipped with TV. However, you can connect to the complimentary WiFi network and enjoy whatever you want to watch or listen to on your own devices.

And finally, please note that this is a working chocolate farm. The ground is uneven and occasionally slippery and farm equipment is in use. You may see the occasional wild boar and geese- don't feed them! No pets please.
